Default To clay or not to clay?

Hi all. I got some megs smooth surface clay for crimbo (off myself) but don't know if it's worth actually doing. If I run my hand over the paintwork the surface feels very smooth. Just wondering will the paintwork need claying or should I just keep hold of it for now. I've never used clay before. Ta all

Put your hand inside one of those clear plastic food/sandwich bags and try again lol. You will feel everything then.

Mine was the same, especially after a good polish and wax it felt like glass. I still clayed mine and the bar was filthy afterwards, just be sure to use loads of lube so you don't scratch the paint

Are you going to follow it up with anything? The only reason I ask is the only time Ill clay a car is when I am going to put a machine on it.

Well I haven't given the car a real good going over for about a year, by that I mean wash polish seal and wax. I just normally wash and use ag spray wax every other week so its getting to that time again I need to give the car a real good going over and as I've never used clay before thought I'd give it a go I won't be using a machine though

Sounds good to me, if your going to give it a good going over then it is worth doing. You will notice the difference.

Did you try running your hand over the bodywork in a plastic bag? I was shown this by a proffesional detailer and it really does make you feel every single imperfection and contaminant on the paint surface.

No I haven't tried this ill give it a try. The neighbours think I'm weird enough as it is lol. If they look out their window and see me stroking my car with a bag on my hand they'll think I've completely lost it haha. The car is only 3 years old and I've looked after it (plenty of wax and polish) so I wouldnt think it would be that bad anyway. I think I would just like to give claying a go haha
