    Default What a day

Driving back from relatives yesterday, following wife/daughter/mother in law, all in the wife's Astra, and the damm thing only overheats, on the M25, in heavy traffic. And where does she stop :

Leaving me there for 1 hour 20 minutes, while they cleared off in the Vectra. I was amazed we managed to part close the inside lane of the M25, and the Highways Agency didn't show up till 5 minutes after the RAC - ie 1 hour 25 minutes !

At least the RAC managed to get the valve out the housing so I could get back to the in laws.

Buy your wife a copy of the highway code.

Meaning what - it broke down, we called it in

If we could have made it any further we would have.

So which is it? She should have carried on until there was a hard shoulder, and that's why you're telling us "And where does she stop" and using the rolling eyes smiley icon, or, as you're now claiming, "if we could have made it further we would have". Whatever. Some people, honestly.

OK - point taken - my roll eyes meant 'of all the places for it to brake down'

No - it was game over at that point, and she had to stop - steaming, misfiring, and in slow moving trafic. Had she tried to go any further she'd have risked blocking the upcoming on slip from the A2/M2.

As an aside - the Astra doesn't even have a temperature gauge - just an overheat warning light, which I think is pretty daft.

Bonkers isnt it? Wifes Punto was the same, luckily it was a straight swap to put one in that has a temp gauge. Any idea why it overheated btw?

Sorry to hear that buddy. Hope you get it sorted. Please don't take this as a criticism, just a little bit of advice for your safety. Never use a triangle or warning beacon on a motorway, only use it on other carriageways if it is safe, it should also be at least 45metres behind the vehicle. It just is a little bit of advice having worked the motorways and seen the aftermath of some things

Why should you never use a warning on a motorway?

I would rather give people some warning than no warning.

It's in the highway code for starters. And walking along the motorway isn't the safest of places to do. Motorways are designed so that there are long stretches of visibility. Hazard warning lights only and get out the car and up an embankment if possible or at least the other side of the barrier
