I dunno about the FM signal ending, but have heard/read that DAB will change to DAB+ and current DAB radios won't be able to pick up the DAB+ signal.
I also think i heard/read that ordinary DAB will be phased out.
I stand to be corrected though!
Sure it was 2015, but I think thats been extended now.
last time i checked it was 2015 too
Thanks guys the mrs got it into her head it was april 2012 read it was 2015 myself but thought ide better make sure thanks again
It's not even the date of the last of the digital TV switchovers
I also had a relative worried they would lose radio signal and how to convert it...
Equally, FM radios (tuners) are still for sale
In 2009 there was a proposal to turn off FM in 2012, but so much time has passed and no coherent policy was in place
Equally they are still uncertain
My son gave me a Pure Highway that I use to listen to Test Match Special, it sits in the glove box and transmits by FM to the car system. If you have post 2007 car you can connect directly to the car system via the MP3 connection.
There's a whole host of DAB stations and the reception is super - a cheapish and effective solution.
No, no - not at all!
There is absolutely no date set or even suggested yet for an FM shutdown. It's been suggested and there are a couple of consultations going on about it but definitely no date. In fact OfCom are still licensing new FM operators with >10 year licenses so I'd guess that it is quite some way off.
Plenty about it in the relevant forums.
