    Default Insurance Con...

It's that time agian, wife's insurance is due.

She is with Norwich Union, renewal is £317 for her Zafira GSi, done a check on Confused.Com and NU come in at £280?? ..

RAC are the best with £242, i then did a online check with NU Direct and that says £289 .

Told her to phone them and ask why?, and tell them that you have found a better deal, do they want to match it, if not then good bye..

If you already a customer, with a clean record why don't they want to keep you??.

On a better note, I am hopfully getting nearer to getting My Vectra, found a SRi V6 CDTi just waiting for the stealer to come up with a deal for the Volvo, but not holding my breath, been waiting since last tuesday.

It's always cheaper to shop around. Companies will do a "good deal" to get you to switch, once you're with them however it's a different story, a bit like the "it's for brand new customers only" building society advert.

Only thing to be aware of if you switch is that in your first year of insurance with a new company, if you want to cancel your policy for whatever reason, you won't get much of your money back. If you stick with an existing provider they will more or less apportion the policy & refund you the balance.

My wife got caught out with that a couple of years ago when we went from 2 cars to one plus bike.

Insurance companies always take a small hit in the first year of the policy to get your business then in the next year they hope you cant be @rsed changing so they can punt the prices up again...Alot of the older folks like to keep the same company for "loyalty" stakes so its with them and the youngsters where they make their cash

When the missus renewed earlier this year, the re-newal with Tesco was £295. We looked around and got it down to £220 with Directline. I phoned up Tesco to cancel the policy, they then made me a new offer at £250.

WTF is happening I told them. Why send a re-newal quote out and then undercut it if the punter phones up? To be honest, if the renewal quote had been £250 originally, we probably wouldn't have shopped around at all and just took it.

Being greedy lost them renewal business. Then 4 weeks ago, she hits the trolley barrier at Asda and causes over 2 grands worth of damage by bending the rear axle.
    God help me.

Her car thank god, not mine.

i had that with 'elephant'.. i was with admiral ( their 'sister' company) who wanted 3 arms and 2 legs for the 2nd years insurance on the GSi..so i went on the net and got a quote of elephant..surprisingly they were £190 cheaper..

i didn't take the policy out there and then, and the following afternoon i had a 'follow-up' call from elephant asking about the quote and how was the price etc... so i thought.. well lets have some fun.. so i bounced a price off the wall and told them that i had a quote that was £70 cheaper than theirs.. without drawing breath he said he'd match it (without proof) if i took the policy there and then..did the paperwork over the phone, charged my card and job done..£260 saving on the GSi for about 3/4 hr of my time...

screw them into the floor.. it often works..

Just as well you'd moved from Tesco insurance, they probably exclude Asda's car parks.

I had the exact same thing.
I was with admiral and the renewal came in about £300 more, I got a quote from elephant and hey presto £100 cheaper than last year.

    £400 saved in about 15mins.
