Pity it's not the correct spec for Vec-C engines.

Vx recommend 5w/30 fully synth long life for all Vec-C engines.

Not sure about the post facelifts, but from the 2004 pre-facelift manual (p253-256), for full oil changes (25,000 miles for petrol engines, 30,000 miles for diesel engines), you should use oil that conforms to GM long life specs (GM-LL-A-025 5W30 for petrol, GM-LL-B-025 5W40 for diesel).

However you can top up with up to a litre of oil that doesn't conform to those specs between changes. As long as it conforms to ACEA A3/B3 then 0W30, 0W40, 5W30, 5W40, 10W30 and 10W40 are all suitable for a top up. You shouldn't add more than one litre of oil that doesn't conform to the long life specs though.

For a full oil change though you should use the long life 5W30/5W40 stuff.

Or if you ignore the ecoflex service interim and revert to once yearly or 10,000m 10w40 can be used without problems ,use semi synth .

I still wouldn't use Castrol GTX for that

I would only use Castrol GTX 10W40 for topups between oil changes

Also, £10 is a fairly standard price for 4 litres of Castrol GTX
It is really old stuff now
