2.2 direct sri wont start!!

hi there everyone, went to the shop this morning no probs all good. the wife went to go xmas food shopping tonight and .......... no work. turns over but does not even try to fire. no warning lights nothing just turninig over and over. eml goes off when turning over does not flash just goes out. can smell fuel from exhaust after turning over. so could it be no spark ?? 1 mechanic said it could be timing chain?? but it was fine this morning.

any ideas would be great as my vx mechanic says he cant do owt till next wednesday!! cant stay at home till then . thanks for looking,

When it comes to 2.2s benny is the man it might possibly be the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator

would the timing chain just go on start up /? done just under 60,000miles
been well looked after seviced etc. like i say it was all good and dandy this morning.

Whip the Oil Cap off get someone to turn engine over a quick brief spin ,if the cam not turning the belts broke.

its a 2.2, it has a chain and not a belt

well will have to wait and see. tried to look if cams were spinning could not quite see. will look in the morning. have had a look round and seems like long service intervals arent that clever. i thought 20,000 miles seems a long time between service.thanks for all the replies, will let you know the outcome when its sorted. good start to xmas, wounder what else is in store for me !!!
