    Default Church = Santa = Jesus = Presents

    APOLOGIES ,,,, IF THIS TOPIC GETS CONTROVERSIAL .......... I AM NOT A RELIGOUS FANATIC .

    is the true message of Christmas lost on kids today ?

    is it all about the presents ?

    While driving to Newcastle Theatre last night my foster lad said he would hate going to church as we passed a church ,

    i said , we are going to church on christmas day , to which he groaned ,

    i fired back with , so do you not want your presents then ,

    " Why ? " he said .

    Well without Jesus / Church , you wouldn't be getting any presents , so if you don't agree with church /Jesus , then we can give your presents away .

    Ohh !!! , he said .............l.o.l.

    Don't get me wrong ( not being a hypocrite ) , i was brought up by my own foster parents , taking me to church most Sundays and was christened and baptised , but when i left home , i now only go on Christmas day . ( Drive form Shiremoor up to Newcastles , St Andrew's church , to meet the rest of my family . )

    So do kids only get the Jesus story at school nativities then ?

    Christmas seems to have become all about the presents and the religous meaning is lost ,

    Santa has taken over .

    How many years after Jesus' birth did St Nicholas appear ?

    Have you noticed , if you say St Nicholas , either slow or fast , it sounds like Santa Claus ? l.o.l.

    i can hear you trying it now = l.o.l.

    ================================================== ======================

    How many members will attend church on Xmas day ,

    How many will be taking children ?

    How would the non religous followers feel , if they could not participate in celebration of Jesus birth and would not receive or give presents to each other ?

    Sadly most schools no longer run nativities anymore on the grounds that some faiths may find it offensive. I have my own opinions which I will reserve....

    I agree and however embarrassed I am to admit that my children only care about the presents. Shallow yes but depends on what you do and don't believe in and how you were brought up. I never went to church when I was a kid. My children did have a nativity play at school though

    and how long after people started celerbrating Saturnalia for the birth of the sun god was jesus born? Times change. Jesus wasnt even born on the 25th of december. I dont take part in the celerbration of Jesus's birth given he wasnt even born on the 25th. I celebrate the end of winter. I have no issue with others celebrating it and dont mind my daughter being taught about it. When she is old enough to understand she will make her own decision about what if any religion to follow. The other argument is that if I didnt let me daughter receive presents at christmas time then she would probably be bullied at school, because the teachers constantly go on about christmas and what its represents. I have explained to her why we give presents etc, but at the same time have explained that I personally dont agree with the reasons, but that this doesnt mean she shouldnt.

    Religion = Tribes = Power = War = Death & Misery

    The human race is flawed unfortunately and it'll all end in tears eventually, which ever way you play the game.

    So... any excuse to be kind to people and make them happy is a good result as far as I'm concerned.

    Presents are presents. Love is love. The more personal you make it, the less it has to cost.

    The birth of the sun (of god) is on the 24th December when the sun climbs in the sky once again. If you celebrate Christmas you are a pagan. The fist day of winter is the 20/21 December though!
