confused anyone got a wiggly/slack gearstick?

When driving home from work i noticed thet my gearstick seems very slack?? Goes into gear fine but even in gear it still wiggles from side to side. Maybe about 1centimetre play each side. Doesnt do it in reverse. Can it be tightened somehow or is this normal? How is your gearstick on vec c? 06 1.9 cdti sri 150

That is usually a symptom of resting left hand, wrist, or arm on the gearstick during normal driving, so none of that issue here; both hands on steering wheel

As long as it does not jump out of gear, and you can live with the movement then its fine. Its more of a personal preference if you want to get it sorted out.

My car has 135K miles and there is virtually no movement, but I have been in some cars where there is a lot of movement

I am of the opinion that all parts should be in good working condition
I would therefore have this repaired, but it depends on the cost
Equally, you could leave it to next service and have the garage that you use prepare a quote or authorise them to automatically repair it for a set amount limit (which is the process I use)

Equally, you could replace the worn components yourself, if this is your thing
Sadly it's not mine, the days of me picking up tools are long over

It wont wobble in reverse as when you lift the collar it slides onto a runner that holds it in place.
