Default need a rough price of a part...

Hi guys, ive got a problem with my car at the minute, i gave the car to my mechanic who has said that he cant fix it, and ill need to take it to vauxhall as it requires an E.C.U or Crankshaft sensor(he isnt sure which). have you guys any idea's roughly how much either of these things will cost to replace?

apologies if i have put this in the wrong section, mods please move if so.

    many thanks.

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Insignia

    Trim : SRi

    Engine : CDTi 160

    Year : 2009

    Mileage : 53.000

Here is a link to crank sensors to give you an idea on price for yours:

    http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/...nk_Sensor.html

But if it's the ECU it'll possibly be four figures, although dont quote me on that.

Replacing the sensor would obviously be a relatively cheap one to fit to rule it out, although any garage with a good grasp of how to use a full function diagnostics machine, not necessarily a Vauxhall dealer, should be able to pinpoint the actual problem.

I would suggest you find a different mechanic
How can they not know whether it is the crankshaft sensor or ECU?

    What symptoms do you have?

Depends on which ECU (electronics) it is, as some are less than £250
However, if it is the main EMS (engine ECU) then you can kiss £1000 goodbye
