If the clips are anything like the ones which hold the front grille in place, I used large cable ties to slip in between the clips so as when then were all place it would slide on the cable tie plastic if that makes sense.

One of the hardest jobs I've done on mine was removing that ****** diffuser, prior to my twin exhaust and new diffuser I thought, right quick 10 min job to remove old one.... Dream on, 2 hours later, 20 broken pieces and 3 skinless knuckles and fingers and an extreme amount of expletives it was off.... Good luck to anyone who's doing it, you'll need it...

Thanks for confidenceboost! Lol
The insert does actually come off very easy, but most people go about getting it off the wrong way. Just remove all the clips and rivets holding the insert in place and then instead of trying to fiddle with the tabs from behind it under the car, you need to face the insert, standing behind the bumper, and then starting at one end, just pull at the insert. It comes away one tab at a time, easy as pie and totally undamaged. HTH
phew its off!!!!! I was determined not to be beat by plastic! So i went outside with a head torch on and and did as dae36 said but still nothing!!!! So i went inside and took Big sig and triple595 advice and got a fatmax stanley knife!!! (bet the naighbours think im nuts!) I Scored all the tabs off the back and wiggled them off getting lots of grit in my face! And the thing just come out with only a little tug! Needless to say its all in the bin now, but ive no intention of re using, jus glad to get it off! So thanks for all your help and suggestions folks, got there in the end! Just hope vxr one is easy to fit!

Boil a kettle and pour it over the plastic clips & fittings, the hot water softens them, it worked for me....
