    Default 1.9 Complete Electrical Fault

    Hi all,

I hope you can help me locate this fault and thank you for reading.

Today i was driving home and when i came to a roundabout the dash lights and radio would fade and then go out.

After the roundabout the dash electrics would come back displaying airbag and ABS warning. a few seconds more and then they would go out.

When i got home (1 mile) i would turn the ignituon on and run the fan at 2. if i raised the fan speed the dash would fail again.

while this is happening i would hear a click from the passenger foot well. This click reminds me of a relay click.

i have had a look at the internal fuse box and there does not seem to be any relays.

any ideas i can look at to resolve this issue.

    thank you in advance

    Russell

As above that's the alternator failing.

    Default alternator then

From this i assume that it is the alternator. :-) What is the chance that it could just be the Battery? worth replacing / testing?

Just been out. the car wont start now so it looks like it is one or the other.

    Thanks

Start the engine and put a multi meter over the battery terminals. Voltage should be at least 14.2v (turn all electrical items off, lights, etc). If any less, then it's your alternator

Batteries usually only affect starting. When the engine is running it uses the alternator. Alternators can also be the secondary cause of bad starting/failure to start if they are failing to charge the battery.

I would also say altenator won't start as battery is not charging so no juice left in it to start change altenator and battery will charge back up again
