    Default Another aircon question

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to test the aircon is working in this low temp weather, I had it topped up 3 months ago with 173g recovered, now it doestn't work, I thought it would still work if recirc or the screen clear was used, is this the case? if so mine must need a new condenser

The air con should not operate when the ambient temperature is below 5'C
What temperature is on the display?

It's 2.5oC on the display, but I would have thought it would work if the air re-circulation or screen clear was used! as every other car i have had does, even if the outside temp is below 5, otherwise the car would steam up while trying to get the inside warm on a cold morning.

No, the air con should not be operating
The switch can be in the ON position but the system will be OFF

You can test this by turning the heater motor to the zero / OFF position
When the air con is operating the system will remain with motor in position 1
When the air con system has turned itself off the motor will also be off

So what's the point of having air recirculation on a cold morning to warn the inside of the car up as you wont be able to see out of the windows because they will just mist up? it just makes it pointless/useless, that's the part I can't get my head round. + you are told to use it at least once a week to keep the system lubricated, how can you do that in the winter months. if it wont work on at least one setting?

That's just the way it is
On a cold morning use the front heated windscreen option, that is much quicker than waiting for the engine to warm up and using the air conditioning (when the ambient temperature allows the air con to operate)

Not heated screen, but the button that puts all the air to the screen & should turn the aircon on.

Its only the cooling part of the air conditioning system that stops working in low temperatures, the system will still work perfectly well as a dehumidifier in all conditions.
