    Default Fuel filter fitting/locking

When fitting a new fuel filter on a cdti should the filter lock into position?

When i changed mine a few weeks ago i aligned it up and the rotated it but it just kept dropping off with the smallest of pressure.I tried every possable way to get it to lock but it wouldnt. After reading the "how2" again the OP said it should lock into place after you align the arrows and rotate it.

Im 99% sure that the filter inside is just laying at the bottom of the cannister as when i had to re-tighten(hammer and screwdriver) i could here it knocking about on the inside.

Now im suffering with a definate difference in power through all the gears and the car feels a bit sluggish

Could the reason for this be the fuel filter sitting in the bottom of the cannister?

Its totaly my fault as it was a very cheap filter from ebay and a make i hadnt even heard of

    Thanks

The filter on the cdti twists and locks into place on the filter lid, it is normally made from a white cotton like material and not the pleated paper yellow coloured filters that you usually see on sale for the older dti models.

Edit: The last time I checked the part No for the filter fom Halfords was HFF282 for the 1.9 cdti models.

I hava a feeling that you have bought a filter for the DTI models as when I went to ebay for a service kit for the cdti every thing was correct except the fuel filter which was the pleated paper type and was the one for the dti models

    thanks for the reply mate.

the filter is the white cotton one and the part number listed on the item description was the same as the VX part number but the quality wasnt as good as the one i took out.Heres a link to the one i brought.

Do the symptom my car is suffering sound like it could be the filter not sitting where it should in the housing?

Ive just orderd another one from euro car parts as they are doing 25% off ATM so i got 1 for £16 which im collecting 2mor

Hi justin, ive just looked through the invoices I have and the Vauxhall part No on the ebay add is the same as the fuel filter part No on the main dealer invoice I have but the filter if it is the correct part should have been a twist fit on to the filter lid. I cant say if the filter not sitting properly in the housing will be the cause of your problem though, sorry.
