Thumbs down £50+ at Leeds Dealers to Diagnose my Fault??!!

    Hi everyone,

Just thought i'd ask what you all thought to this, whether its the norm or not?
I have a 2.2 Signum thats just started showing the engine symbol on the dash, which according to my book is the exhaust emissions. So i drove down to my local Reg Vardy Vauxhall dealers in Leeds to let them plug the laptop in. (Probably some sort of sensor thats knacked?)

Unfortunately they were busy today so i have booked it in for Tuesday. The guy then asked how old the car was (2yrs next month) and said well some things are only covered under warranty for 1 year, and if the thing that is broken isn't covered then they will also charge me £45+VAT to diagnose the fault!!! Eh??
That seems pretty steep to say that i will no doubt have to pay a massive bill anyway if it is a 'non warranty' part.? I used to have VAGCOM on my laptop for my Audi S3 and it literally took 10 mins to plug and play??

Does anyone know of a Vxl dealer in Yorkshire that don't charge so much??

    And also

they will levie a charge till they can find out if it's a part that's qualified under warranty that has failed. if not then they will charge you for the inspection.. if it is then the charge will be passed on to VX..

I'm sorry, but that to me is complete and utter bollox!!! I've never, ever in my life been charged by my dealer for them to diagnose any fault - especially one that could be a warranty issue. The only things that aren't covered after year one are trims and paint. Anything that's mechanical/engine related most certainly is.

Look for another dealer if I was you.

Strange how some dealers charge and others don't. I plugged my tuning box in the wrong way (in a hurry!) and the spanner light came on Took it to the dealers and they plugged it into Tech 2, checked it, fault code was overfueling in the common rail (oops my fault!!!)
    They reset it FOC

As Duncan says, i'd check with another dealer.

EDIT: The wife has just told me she took ours in a while ago to check a spanner light (she did'nt tell me until now!!!!) He checked it, reset it and again NO CHARGE

Shame the "technicians" working there are a load of idiots that damaged my airbox

Some call it an inspection fee ... I rang Vx once and complained ... they informed me that dealers could charge these ridiculous fees

they are entitled to charge a fee to investigate in case the fault isn't covered by warranty..

in the case that the fault is a warranty issue there will be no charge to pay..

My dealer charges £70 for diagnosing faults, which is payable if the fault is not covered or the car is out of warranty.
