    Default rear wheel bearing

How hard is it to replace a wheel bearing and is this something an amateur mechanic can fix or should I take it to a garage?

Bearings cost around £45-50 off ebay, how long does it take to fit?

    Appreciate your help!

are you changing it because you can hear it humming? if yes swap tyres around and see if it goes? might be just a tyre getting near the limits

As above, what is the diagnosis that makes you suspect or know it is the rear bearing, or are you just simply interested in the procedure for changing?
Presumably it is a MoT fail point or advisory on service?

Did both of my rears about 4 weeks ago on the drive - trolley jack and axle stands. I bought these ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3006069711...84.m1439.l2649 but the same seller IIRC also does them individually.

The first one took me two hours, the second one about an hour. Just depends if all the bolts come out easily .

I had mine done last week, you can get cheap ones off Ebay, but once I was 100% sure it was the bearings and not the tyres I just wanted it done, so was prepared to pay, so was £180 fitted, is nice driving now and only hearing the thrum of the tyres, and not the borked bearings and brake calipers (just prior).

I diagnosed mine as the bearings after realizing the sound started as soon as the car moved, and also the sound was constant on all road surfaces. And it was poked, I had a play with it afterwards and was shocked I had been doing 100mph on that thing, lucky it didn't disintegrate.

tyres are about 18 months old, the humming from the near side rear is fairly loud especially when going round corners, some days louder than others.

I really need a nice vectra c chap to help with cam belt, wheel bearings and front knocking noise, any takers?
