Got to agree with John its a forum so there will be threads u don't agree with or take part in but the title states its about Hids so u don't need to read it if your fed up with them John was just giving advice its the same with any thread now I'm pretty sure most of the question have been asked before

^When that document is read from front to back - there is absolutely no room for any misinterpretation. It's all there in "layman's terms" for our information.
No BS has been shown here, it is a VOSA paper that was published March 2011 - and is very detailed on the subject of new lighting requirements for 2012.
Couldn't be any clearer.
Anyone interested in the subject - do read it fully and make your own mind up instead of burying head in sand or denying it's real.
That's all, shall wait and see which MOT stations are going to follow it from January.
page 3 of the above document:
"This raises the question of whether these checks apply to vehicles fitted with after-market HID lighting kits. These kits convert conventional halogen headlamps to HID Xenon and they are widely sold and fitted to vehicles used on the road. The Department for Transport considers that after-market systems should be required to meet the same safety standards as that applied in respect of these lamps at vehicle Type Approval. Therefore, in order to pass the MOT test, vehicles fitted with after-market HID systems would also need to be fitted with headlamp cleaning and self-levelling systems. Some high specification estate cars are fitted with a selflevelling suspension system and this would be considered as adequate for the purpose."
^I don't see what is hard to understand about that personally.

So they making it illegal to have correctly fitted hids and damm do vectras need them! But legal to have dangerous lights that 2 candles would shed more light on road!!! Ludicrus, it shud be the saxos that have 55w hids fitted with non projector ball headlights that are banned and owt above 35w! Not cars with correct projection equiptment and a sensible wattage! its all common sense but insted they have to rule hids out all together so most vecs will be driving round in darkness whats dangerous. no matter what bulbs you buy for standard headlights the vectras lights are rubbish. so most people have them on here for saftey more than anything!
Pass and advise
No all joking aside I disagreed with the bloke. But in end we agreed to disagree.
His example was a suspension bush an pin. If bush completely missing can't fail. If it was there but cracked was a fail. A personally think it's all bollox.
I used examples such as yours and he just changed subject to how something can pass with a bucket for a seat etc.
For me a just look at this hid thing as an hours work once a year to remove and refit after MOT.
I came out of a shop tonight as 2 traffic cops where walking in.... heres how the conversation went.
ME... excuse me officer, can you tell me the legal issues regarding after market hids.
Tall slim cop ... Yes, they are illegal, what car you got.
Me ... that vectra in front of your BMW 4X4
Fat cop .... You do know we can give you a £30 fine for having HID's cos they blind on coming drivers and they will be a MOT failure from next year.
Me .. but my lights arnt on, so how can you fine me and mine dont blind other drivers as I drove my son's car towards mine to make sure.
Fat cop .. we will let you of this time but if we see you again you can expect a £30 fine as we have already done 2 drivers tonight.
.............
So, looks likes cops are ready to dish out fines with cars with HID's.
Looks like like they will be pulling alot of audis and range rovers and new volvos then just to check they not aftermarket and they have washers and self leveling equiptment! They will be pulling in the millions if this was the case!
Well touch wood upto now I've been fine and go past countless amounts of traffic cops on my travels up an down the country everyweek.
If I get pulled I'll pay 30 quid. And crack on. Better than rolling car down some of the roads I have to go down.
If get told agen then I'll drop the colour to 4300 and stick some washers on.
Either way I'll be keeping mine until such point car is off on tow truck lol.
