Not 100% but I thought this engine had a problem where the clutch throw-out bearing could fail and cause poor pressure on the clutch in that it would not engage fully. The symptoms usually were a noise (this lead to some 1.8 owners thinking they had a DMF - which they don't). Either way m8 the gearbox will have to come off.

Like I say I'm not 100% on that.

Cold clutch judder from the 1.8VVTi is common. A replacement (improved) clutch kit from VX is the answer. My old 06 plate was ****** murder from cold and not much fun in stop / start traffic until warmed up then the judder disappeared. Judder was only a problem when pulling away from standstill in first.

Just because you don't abuse the clutch, doesn't mean the last owner didn't drive it like he stole it!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
