Under the drivers seat!

What is the black box thingy under the drivers seat (I've got leather heated seats if it makes a difference)

I've dropped a ring under the seat and it's gone under the black box. No matter how I've tried, I can't get at it. I've noticed that there are two bolts holding the box to the floor.

Can I just undo these without anything exploding. I don't want to start having to take the whole car apart.

had a shuftie ( and found one pound fifty and a 1/4" drive extension bar ) and the module is part of the seat airbag system, the 2 black plastic nuts will be fine to be removed to release the module..it can't actiavte the airbags without an electrical pulse.. if you're still worried disconnect the yellow plug under the seat..

can you not fish it out with a piece of coathanger?? anyway you'll be fine with just letting those 2 nuts off, there is no motion sensing in that unit..

slide the seat right forward for better access thou, after a bottle of red it kinda went to my head tucking the bonce down in the rear footwell..

just a big hammer!!!! destroy the car to recover the ring!!

Cheers Mark. Just to be sure. Looking from rear to front, the bolts go into the floor more or less under the front of the drivers seat. (if that makes sense)

yeppo, they go into the underfloor crossmember.. as you look along the carpet under the seat they are level in front of you.. 2 off 10mm plastic nuts with inbuilt washers.. they will screw off and just hammer back on..
