Default 2.2 TDi gearbox drain bolt ?

    2.2 DTi vectra elegance manual (52 plate) Taxi..F35 G/Box I believe.

Ive been researching on here for a while and although' there is a lot of information on the location of the 3 plugs needed for renewing the G/Box oil there is also questions on the removal of the drain plug, With it being so close to the chassis rail or some type of metal obstruction..
I must admit I haven't had a look yet because of the extreme weather we are having but I have noticed that of those people that take their cars to an indie mechanic they usually get charged about £40 all in..
Obviously the mechanics get to the drain bolt easily because of the low price including labour..
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to tell me how they get around this obstruction .. I was thinking of maybe dropping/raising the engine a little bit for access, maybe jacking the engine up or removing an engine mount...Maybe it's just a case of having the right tool for the job..
Any replies would be gratefully received...Thank You Tosh

Well I took off the wheel, and I cant seem to find the "fill " plug..
After doing some more research I understand that some f35 G/Box's are designed "for life", This was stated on the Saab forum. I did however find the level plug and the ****** stupid drain plug...What stupid person designed that.....I can only just get my finger in between the plug and the chassis....this is going to be a nightmare of a job....Tosh

High buddy, not sure if you have got this sorted yet but the fill point for the gear oil is under the bonnet down between the battery box and engine if memory serves me, I think I had to unclip something on the battery box to get my (admittedly fat) fingers in. You have to pull off the reverse light switch on the gearbox and then undo sensor.

As for the drain plug I used a hex bit from a socket set, sort of like the little type you would stick in the end of a ratchet screwdriver or such but bigger. I stuck that in the drain plug and used a shifter to crack it, then just took out the bit and undid the plug with my fingers... not easy once its covered in oil lol
