    Vehicle : Vectra VXR

    Engine : 2.8 Turbo

    Year : 2006

Default VXR vectra 255 and 280

I am looking to buy a Vectra VXR in 2012 and needed a few pieces of info:

Did Vauxhall make a VXR Vectra 280bhp version in 2005? (Lower tax bracket).
Is the 255 version the same as the 280bhp in all but power? Any other tweaks?

Is it easy to get a 255 version and increase it to 280? Is it a simple case of remap?

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Vectra Hatch

Trim : SRI with added X-Pack

    Engine : 1.9 16v 150

    Year : 2006

    Mileage : Near 100K

I believe the 280 also had a few suspension tweaks, and they are easily remapped to 280+.

But thats about all the info i know sadly.

I've got a 2006 255. Which I had remapped and now pushing 300, very easy ECU remap, takes minutes. My car tax is in the higher bracket around £450 per year.

The 255 version only existed because the ESP system wasn't yet ready for the 280 version, so the 280 has different ESP programming.

some more info for you, thanks to Spoons

Ok... Here's some information to be going on with....

Vectra VXR 2.8 Turbo had two power output models (both with same engine). Earlier 255 BHP (about Pre '07) and later 280 BHP (around '07 onwards) check the KW markings on the door panel to identify which is which.

The earlier 255 BHP models have a much lower annual tax cost. Most later 280 models are around £430 per year road tax.

Both can be remapped to around 300 BHP and is worth it due to the amount of additional torque (over 100 Lb/ft more).

Later 280 models had revised IDS2+ Suspension, Revised Exhaust (less noisy in cabin), revised Airbox (hole in it), more power.

Would recommend try and get a low mileage example with factory options listed below as they are more desirable for resale :-

    - CD70 Sat Nav (basic but handy as its fitted into the car already)
    - Bluetooth Telephone integration
    - Climate Control (came with Aircon as standard)
    - Parking Sensors
    - Automatic Forward Lighting (AFL) with headlight wash and Xenon lights
    - Full Leather Seats with heated seats
    - 19" Alloy Wheels (came with 18" standards)

Other options which are rare and you are lucky if you get them

    - Sunroof
    - UV Solar Windscreen
    - Automatic Folding Mirrors
    - Polorizing Rear View Mirror
    - Rain Sensing Wipers
    - Automatic on Headlights

The Vectra VXR was made in Hatchback and Estate models with only 1001 built for the UK Market

Standard colours were Arden Blue (451), Star Silver (165), Sapphire Black (290) and Flame Red (71). In the very final year they released another limited edition colour called Silver Lightening (which is very rare, only 24 were made in this colour). Total = 1001

Most Vectra VXR's were Manual gearbox but a few were made with Automatics (again very rare).

Vectra VXR's are very reliable but did have some glitches and recalls.

    Recalls:-

    - Handbrake Recall
    - Windscreen Wiper Motor Recall
    - Header Tank Replacement Recall

    Other glitches...

    - Car juddering = MAF Sensors, CoilPacks or Clutch
    - Oil low warning light = faulty sensor if oil is at correct level
    - Other General glitches found on all Vectra-C models

    Upgrades....

Loads of upgrades are available for the Vectra VXR.

Stage 1 Remap = 300+ BHP and worth every penny
Stage 2 Remap, Turbo, Water Radiator 325+ BHP
Stage 3 Remap, Turbo, Water Radiator, Intercooler, Injectors 340+ BHP
Stage 3+ Up to 400 BHP with Hybrid or Garratt GT28 or GT30 turbos
(However, 340 BHP is pretty close to the chassis limit of this car and Front Wheel Drive)

    Main Vectra VXR Tuners Are:-

    - Courtenay Sport (the one I use)
    - Midpoint Garages
    - Regal
    - Thorney Motorsport

Loads of suspension upgrade options, quaiffe Limited Slip Differential, Big Brake kits, tons of stuff, just look around.

People always ask how economical these cars are. My advice if money is a sensitive issue, dont buy one as it will bleed you dry.

Good tyres cost around £150 each
Road Tax at the higher braket is £430 per year
MPG = 7 MPG on track, 18 MPG regular short stop start distance, 23 MPG town, 27 MPG mixture, 38-43 MPG at 56mph on cruise. Around 280-330 miles per tank without running it to the bottom.
I think servicing is very cheap if you do it yourself and get Trade Club Discounts.. very good prices

Check history for lots of owners, some this will mean problems with the car and regularly moved on, and others might be short term owners but the car may have been driven harder more regularly.

There are cars out there with low mileage and caring owners, have a look on VXRonline for the register and you may find someone prepared to sell a good one on there.

Wow - thanks for all the info. I think I will go for a remapped 255 version - in estate form. Got plenty of time to look around, not rushing into anything.
