Default Insurance it never ceases to amaze me

Got my Insurance renewal in today. My details have all remained the sme as last year apart from being one year older, 56. My named driver is the same.
Last year they wanted £388 including credit as I pay monthly Direct Debit. That was after phoning and haggling with them to get it reduced. I know lump sum is cheaper but I don't want to shell out all that in one go at this time of year.
Now here is the bit I don't get, I have checked and double checked the figures and policy details and they want £302 for this year.
    What a result.
Has this happened to anyone else? I am waiting for a letter tomorrow that says
    Dear John,
We are are sorry to inform you that there has been an error blah blah blah.
Well heres hoping and fingers crossed.

It's typical to send a renewal with a higher premium, reduced terms, etc

I don't even bother phoning them to negotiate I simply advise them to cancel the policy when it expires and send a confirmation
Once the last Direct Debit is paid I cancel the Direct Debit, although this often results in the standard letter "We will not be able to collect future payments", doh

Equally, I wish my premiums were £300
I last paid that when I was SDP only in Aberdeen
Moved to Glasgow and my insurance doubled, eeek!

Thanks for moving to the correct section.

M8Internet, what I dont understand is why it is £80 cheaper than last year when everyone else seems to be paying an awful lot more. Still I think I will say thank you very much.

I meant to add that is with Direct Line.

Check the terms and compare both policies, you will probably find they have been reduced
The usual methods are to remove protected NCB, legal expenses, excesses, and so on

I noticed the same last year what looked like an equivalent policyof the same renewal cost but had had the protected NCB removed
If it wasn't for that then I would have left it in place
Why would I reduce the level of cover...

I've used argoscompare for the last two years, the total to pay has been the cheapest (after net money back)
After 60 days then submit my claim for the argos voucher

I am a keen user of the search "supermarkets" I have been with Esure for four years and each year they are never cheapest from that first year where they were, so all I do is phone them to "cancel" explain why when asked and BINGO they usually match the cover and reduce to within a few quid.

Mine did go down in April from the year before dspite being on max NCD levels bit weird but hey!

I checked the paperwork even had them side by side on the table as i read them line by line. I still could not find any difference, so lucky me.

£300 is a fair price, mine usually goes up.

I dont really get the "protected no claims" stuff. They just put your premium up by more then reduce it by your protected discount if you have a bump. If they offered protected premiums I would be 1st in line.
