    Default battery info

other day my battery went flat after trying to start the car when air was in the fuel system,

so i took the battery off and charged it, the indicator was black not green but when i moved the battery it went green because of the fluid inside like it was lo on fluid,

its a standard vx battery do these batterys need topping up still? because it says on the battery no maintainance

They are classed as maintenance free - ie, no topping up required.

However, inside the battery is a small reservoir and over the period of its life this reservoir automatically tops up the battery. Eventually though the reservoir becomes empty, the battery no longer gets topped up and it will fail one day.

Not sure about batteries now, but with maintenance free batteries from a few years ago, if you looked carefully enough you could see where the reservoir was and prise off the cover to top it up - thus prolonging the life of the battery a couple more years. Sometimes you had to remove the manufacturers label to see where it was.

The green indicator is not 100% reliable in telling you the health of the battery. It is just that, an indicator, and sometimes just a rough one.

yeah i can see the labels have covered up the holes, is it just deionised water that you top it up with?
