sounds like it but you need to charge battery to full, and test battery,a dead cell would give you the same symptens.you can them check alternator output.

Deffo sounds like alternator failure. Get it started with jump leads and check the power at the battery with the engine running (disconnect jump leads). Should be at least 13.5 volts. Any less and the alternator is goosed

Is it just me or is there alot of alternator/battery failures just now?

As said check it with a multimeter. If the battery has discharged over time - by the sounds of it - then the alternator may not be charging it.

There will be at this time of year. Increased load on the battery / alternator due to increased use of lights, blower, heated rear window, etc. Coupled with cold morning start-ups etc. This weather will pick out the weak batteries / alternators

Getting sorted tomorrow. Next door neighbours brother is a Vx mechanic so he's going to sort it for £50. That's not including the alternator I had to buy at £167.

Wasn't like this last few years. Seems when I have a fault others motors seem to follow suit.

Yip m8 went for the 105A-Hr RTX unit. Asked about a bigger one but they said it may damage the electricals in time so stick with what was on the car - which I'm sure is 105A.
