Exclamation Do average spped cameras really work?.

I've been wondering if any of you have an opinion on the average speed cameras in road works.I mean,do they work, are there "active" one's,or are most of them there to make drivers slow down?.FELIXX.(And NO,before anyone want's to know have I been speeding in roadworks!!!)

    It varies
    There are different versions

There are also different combinations :
    none are powered,
some are powered but not active,
some are powered and some are active,
all are powered but not active,
all are powered and some are active,
all are powered and all are active

As I found out by following cases going through the local court, out of the ones installed on the A80 only two were active and only during daylight

    As for them actually working
The ones on the A77 have been a joke
These are SPECS2 and so far just 28 prosecutions in 3 years (compared to 165 in the year prior to installation)
However it is the deterrent factor that was required, and that has worked
As a result drivers can be stopped for speeding through the controlled zone, but no action can be taken as it has to be assumed the SPECS2 cameras may have already caught an offence (in effect known as double jeapardy in Scotland)

Cameras have also just been reinstalled on the M8, but as yet these are still not powered and active
The temporary 40mph zone seems to be becoming permanent as each year goes by...

Whether they work or not, it ain't worth the 3 points or possible ban to find out.

There is a stretch on the A38 I use a lot. I set the "cruise" 60mph, and cars still go past, well in excess of the 60 limit. Don,t know if they know something I don,t.

They are installed but not active, there are bits missing!
As a result they do not comply with the Type Approval Certification for SPECS3
The parts are due to be fitted by 15 December, then tested on 16 December, so should be live from 19 December

Traditional patrols will continue to enforce speed limit until SSCP advise otherwise (as duplication is not permitted)

I have worked for a company doing road works and now the managed speed limit on the m6 in the west midland and the number of people who get caught is quite staggering. The problem is that so many get caught it takes a little time to get the notices out.
