    Eek Spanner Light Cam Sensor?

    Please Help Me!
I have been Vauxhall since the 70's and love them. Nova, Viva, Astra Cavalier, Vectra, all have been great. I purchased a 2003 Vectra 1.8 in Feb 2011. and have fitted new front cat with Oxy sensor, new EGR valve and a new (reprogged) ECU. Had various problems with running and missing, all seem cured BUT it has an ongoing spasmodic problem of being slow to start but when it does the Spanner light comes on. Turn it off remove key and start again and its perfect. Code comes up for Cam Position Sensor. Fitted new one seemed O.K. for a day and then same problem. Tech 2 guy reckons may need a rewire from Cam Sensor plug to ECU but just womndered if it may be a faulty CIM module on the steering column or a bad connection?. The indicators either cancel themselves or just dont and the Cruise control turns it self off at times, although I think that this may be the spring on the clutch pedal.

Any help PLEEZE, would be greatly appreciated. my Wife says either fix it sell it or our 47 years of marriage will end.
    Thanks guys in anticiptaion,
    Nigel

The car should run with a faulty camshaft sensor, just show the warning light
If it is going into safe mode, then the crankshaft sensor is probably also at fault, both need replaced together

As for the indicators and cruise control
This may be a faulty CIM module
The usual symptom is turning the left indicator on and it stays on (does not flash) once cancelled, along with the traction control and steering warning lights

You could easily spend £500 and be no further forward
    I feel the auction beckoning...

have you got a fault code? i had a very similar problem and started as soon as i put it in for a service. Mine was P0011 camshaft position sensor timing over advanced, had the spanner light on every trip i made. After 3 months of trying to source the problem, i put some ngk iridiums in, just a routine plug change, low and behold the fault hasnt come back and no longer comes up on a fault code reader. Maybe a dodgy set of plugs or co-incidence i dont know, but they fixed my problem, hope this helps.

    Default Spanner Cam Light Sensor

    Hi Guys,

The spanner light comes on at odd occasions when starting and will stay on all the time, but, If I turn the engine off, remove the key and restart no spanner light and engine runs great. If I leave the key in and restart almont instantly it just clicks and doesn't turn or fire.

Cured the indicators from another thread. Disconnected the cable block on the back of the CIM, sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on it and also where the indicator stalk pushes in and now they are perfect.

Fault code that is in the meory is P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nigel

    Default Spanner Cam Light Sensor

Forgot to say that the plugs are Bosch Super 4's.
    Would NGK be better.

    Thanks

Might be worth paying for genuine one mate. I've heard people having problems with replica cam and crank sensors. Not sending the correct signal

I had the same problem after I bought my Vectra. After months of taking it back to the garage (as they'd change something and the fault wouldn't occur for a day or so for them, but would after day or so when I got it back) - they replaced the cam position sensor for a genuine GM one rather than a cheaper pattern one.

Problem gone, and hasn't recurred since.

This it seems is one sensor where only genuine GM will do.

Thanks Rich, my wife (my Corsa is just perfect) remebered that the sensor was a "Fuel Parts" one and they swopped the first one because of this problem and it is still there so, I think you are right, it seems a GM one only.

I'll give it a try fingers crossed.
