I've only had my Vec 1.9 CDTI a few weeks but I love it! It's a really relaxing drive, but also has the power to get away if needed. Haven't had any problems with it so far, but it's still early days. Although I'm getting horrible MPG at the moment with loving the torque too much

really depends on your mileage ........ if your doing alot then go for the 1.9 fingers crossed it might have had all the fixes done before youve got it .
for short driving the 1.8vvt is a good one ..very reliable ..or for a bit of power go for the 2.0T .extreme power and money get the 2.8T lol ..

Long journeys and high mileage would be the 1.9 but they tend to have the most faults based on posts in here and mechanics opinion. If not fussed about the power and need the diesel then the 120 bhp 1.9 will prob be safer issue wise.

Unsure on 1.8 as never owned one, i owned 2.2 Astra Bretone coupe long time ago (x reg it was) and was heavy on fuel.

2.0 T is a great engine will average 30+ round town and 40+ on a run, but obviously not as high as the 1.9 mpg wise, tend to have fewer issues though.

2.8 is suppose to be a great engine but again never owned one. Would imagine slightly less mpg than the 2.0 and higher tax as well I believe.

Each has their own pros and cons. You have to decide based on your requirements.

The 1.8's are more reliable but lack in grunt until high in the rev range.

I can see why you'd be put off a 1.9 150 but you've got to think how many there are compared to how many issues there have been. It's the most common engine in the Veccy.

The only thing with the vvt is a small engine to lug a huge car around and 2 why didn't this engine come with the six speed gearbox as motorway journeys are painfull with the engine screaming it's head off other than that it is a very reliable engine

    Hey buddy
    I have had
    3 x cdti 1.9 cdti 150s
    1x 1.8 Sri VVt
    1x VXR Auto

I recommend the VXR if you are rich - as long as its not 90% accident damage repaired

If you dont have the £500 to tax a car for a year and ****e yourself at the thought of having to buy a TEXACO franchise to keep you on the road, the I would suggest the 1.9

I have DTUK green boxed two and Bigg Petes Estate was Remapped.
The reliability - never had one single issue with any of them, the economy and speed is great. Do yourself a favour though and get a NAV, all mine have been as they just look so much better on the eye at night.

and if you are really as hardcore as me and want to sleep with a Vectra - find one with AFL - couple of high milers currently on Autotrader

happy hunting and hope you get a good motor!
