    Default Boot lock won't release

My boot lock won't release either from the key or the button. The button has never beeped, though my previous pre face lift car did, but the boot still released. Now it's not releasing though the door locks all work fine.
    Any ideas?

Is the motor actually turning when you press button on boot in?

I had a similar problem to this a few months back and found that the wire that connects to the boot button and locking mechanism had vibrated loose.

So had to climb into the boot to open it. Then strip all the paneling off to get acces to the mechanism. The connector was quite loose so I've now zip-tied it in place

Motor works when you press the button on the boot; it makes a grinding sort of noise not the normal electric motor sort of whirr, so presumably power is getting to it. Should the button on the drivers door beep?

    Think mine beeps yeah :-/

But if the motor is turning its mechanically jammed can you undo it using the manual hole by lying in the boot and removing rubber grommet from just above the lock?

Mine got to this point an would not budge I had to angle grind the lock off and replace it

My God that sounds horrendous! I'll climb into the boot later this morning when it warms up a bit. Fingers crossed that WD40 might be enough. I'll let you know how I get on.

Finally got round to doing the job; turned out to be something simple with a no-cost solution. Damo77 put his finger on it: the boot button operates a tiny microswitch to operate the lock. The microswitch is not very securely located in a plastic clip and can work loose preventing the switch from making. I only needed to secure the switch and a squirt of WD40 on the plunger for good measure and Bob's your uncle.
Thanks to those who took the trouble to respond - much appreciated.

I had this problem a while back, I rang the garage and asked if they could look at it, but they said try leaning on the boot lid i.e. apply weight and press the button to release at the same time, sure enough that worked! I'm guessing its a common problem.
