Hi Kirby, the 20Dti water pump replacment is a fair old job,its driven of the auxillary V belt, ther are quite a lot of parts to remove to gain acsess, coolant pipe ,Charge air pipe, air cleaner housing, engine damping block(you need to support engine to do this)pump V belt pulley and then the pump can be removed,as i said a fair old job.

soz its a petrol 2.0 T , i beleive that the balance chain runs the water pump just wondered if was similar to the 2.2 as can see a cover opposite water pump & think u have to put some bolts in or something to stop this chain from slipping away but can then remove water pump

Yes you need the tool that bolts on to the water pump gear.

Well it's done , reason for leak can only guess was due to corrosion on gasket mating faces as pump turned free enough,
took me around 10 / 11 hours to do although this did include replacing me inner cv boot on d/side driveshaft as had to remove it for access .
Also did it on a 2 post ramp so time lost lining up each day , poss saved time from struggling if car was on axle stands.

Test drive tomorrow, but heaters & fan works & not dripping

    Bad parts
putting rag in timing chain area incase water pump bolts fell between tool & pulley ,

aligning new pump with pulley to bolt back up for which I used an old side broken mirror

getting pipes of thermostat housing as didn't have right tool for unclamping clips,

unbolting bit below Thermo housing & refitting it as forgot to put long bolt back in before putting hard pipe into pump housing & making sure tab lined up .

driveshaft bearing & bracket need bolting together before bolting the bracket onto engine.

    Good points
I did it , with knuckles in tact yep do wear gloves also

Also found bolt missing in turbo nr oil feed pipe so may of found eml mystery
