    Default Brake pad life

Just Curious, my car had four new pads discs and rear calipers when I bought it that was at 34,400 miles, I now have 56K and the pads are all still like new front and (I think surprisingly?) rear.

Yes, the original rear pads and discs are very poor performing
You are lucky to get 20K miles out of them
The replacements will last about 20K miles for the pads and 50K miles for the discs

I replaced all discs & pads with gm standard kits 2 years ago, 35k later i have just replaced all the pads again, backs were the reason for the change although there wasn't much life left in the front's... Not bad me thinks.

Thanks guys, I do drive very sympathetically most of the time and am quite gentle on brakes unless I am in a strop and giving it the beans,,,,,

Brake wear also varies by car type, typically the larger the higher the wear
Equally, you can drive slowly and wear out brakes faster, lots of town driving will do that
Finally, automatics rip through brake pads
We have one on our fleet (driver requires this) and it has brake pads replaced about every 10K miles

Automatic 33k, original factory pads - plenty of meat on them still, I was surprised. You never can tell!

It depends very much on your driving style, obviously if you tend to brake late when stopping, pads are going to wear out faster, equally, town driving where your constantly braking for lights/crossing are going to wear your pads out faster, if you do a lot of motorway commuting, or plan ahead and use engine braking a lot, the pads will last a lot longer

85k on my 06 sig CDTI, still on original front discs and pads with around a third of the pad material left. Rear discs and pads were replaced for last MOT at around 80k, although the discs would probably have survived a little longer the pads were down to a couple of mm.
These cars do weigh over 1500kg though.

Confident the front pads will make the magic 100k mark if the rest of the car holds up till then

    Eddie.
