does any1 know any other cause...other than the oil....wots the price of a new gearbox.....prob time to move the car on if it is the gearbox
My initial problem was the change between 2nd and 3rd, where the revs rose as the gears didn't engage properly with a jolt when they did. The problem was not constant and it would go weeks between occurrences, but when it did it was quite concerning, hence my visit to the main dealer. In passing, the car is a 2006 Signum Elite with 85k on the clock.
The technician who advised me said that the early AF40 gearboxes were subject to coolant contamination and suffered from excesive wear to the valve block, but that both problems had been resolved in the gearboxes fitted to the post 2007 cars (the one's with the chrome door handles and MP3 Player facility).
I had the oil change as advised by by the technician at a cost of £75.00 or thereabouts and had the 2009 software installed at the same time. It didn't cure the problem, so booked the car into an auto gearbox specialist in Huddersfield under my Warrantywise policy.
They found the problem to be due to coolant contamination and suggested that an exchange gearbox was the best option at just over £2400.00. Warrantywise wanted to only replace the damaged items and we compromised, I paid £500.00 towards the cost of an exchange gearbox, that I thought was fair.
So, I've got the latest gearbox, all shiny, with the upgraded valve block, seals and software and I'm a happy camper.
What year is it? I was warned off 2007 production because the auto box cooler seals went and fill the box with coolant (as above) I believe Vauxhall are aware, and it was an unofficial recall job?
gear changes always smooth its just that initial engaging drive from park.....when cold
Appears to be conflicting information on this, I was lead to believe on the vectra it was only the early models.....ie 2004 (under) same with the valve body
