    Default no smoke, no poke.........

this is what i tell people when i start the car from cold, but now its getting embarrasing, ive got a 2004 2.0 dti and when i start it from cold ie mornings and after work, it stuggles to fire and when it does it gives a good puff of light grey smoke , like i say this is getting embarrasing now as the lads at work all start coughing and spluttering when i start the car to take the plss. lol any ideas to help remedy this.

had new egr valve in march,
    it has been decatted

see what its like with the new glow plugs fitted. If it has high miles then try thicker oil like a 5w 40

your leak off pipes are fitted to the injector if they are spit it wont start very well. when i had a 2.0 dti it stopped and all the fuel went back to the fuel tank and would not start at all. I change the pipes bleed the system it was all fine then.

If battery is ok, then start with leak off pipes, then move on to starter motor... my old 53 plate dti fired up first crack in the coldest of weather.

My 2.0dti does exactly the same and it's on 107,000 although its tends to start ok in the mornings,i put it down to the outside temp not being quite cold enough like today it was 7c on my temp gauge and leaving work it took 3 goes to start it,an i also end up with a puff of grey smoke accompanied with the tell tale smell of unburned diesel.
Some time ago on the forum, maybe 3 or 4 years ago someone came up with the idea of by passing the auto glow plug switch on for a manual switch that you control and not the car, ideal for days like today anyway can't remember who it was its that long ago.

Its more than likely injector seals or leak off pipes, very cheap to replace if you can do them yourself, i had to remove the camshaft to change the last set of injector seals.
