Default Fitting Sub this week and....

Despite the freezing weather conditions, this week i'm going to attempt to install my 1000w active sub in the boot of my Siggy. These are my questions:-

What size cable (mm2) should i be using for the 12v power from the battery?
Where is a good place to connect the GND?
There is a fuse on the sub itself do i need one on the cable also?
Can i take the remote on 12v from the cig lighter (IE so the sub turns on when the ignition powers up)?

Cant rember the size cable I used, but the thicker the better
You can use a boll from the rear seats (just rub away any paint) as a ground
Yes alwyas have a seperate fuse as clote to the battery as possible. This also means you can remove the sub with out leaving a live wire.
Yes you can use the cig lighter, but remember this means its on when ever the car is on, so may be worth fitting a seperate switch. You can also get variable gain controllers with remove lives on them.

P.s If anyone feels any of the above is wrong please correct me as ill probably be fitting a sub in my latest vec at some point

4 gauge minimum for the power supply and the ground. Always put a fuse within around 12 inches of the battery.

Cheers guys. invaluable as always. I was going to go with all of the above, the only difference was i was going to find a gnd on the rear fuse box.

    4 guage? Thats about 22mm2? Isn't that a bit excessive (& expensive) for 1000w?

There's two earth points in the boot, one each side fella. Just earth the amp to that. Run the 4 gauge power cable direct to the battery though and as said by someone else, fuse it at the battery end too.

Nope. First system I did I put in 8 gauge, them a while later changed up to 4 gauge, system was notably better with the larger cable. Its one of these jobs that is best done right the first time. Had a quick look on ebay and its only about £2.99 a meter which is pretty good imo. You'll need about 5m I would think. Better ordering too much than ending up having to join in another piece.

OK mate. Just wanted to check. I'll take your advice as 'superior knowledge' on this one. Off to buy some then.

Nice, I got some 2.5mm 4 core stranded speaker cable kicking about. Might connect all the cores together for 10mm. You think it'll go through the grommet in the bulkhead behind the glovebox?
