Vectra Tyres

On my 2.2 Design the tyres are 215 x 55 x 16" (I think) and I am nearing the time when I need to replace them. I have looked at the comments on this site and Black Circles Site and they all give good info on the best tyre for wet, dry etc. But I noticed a comment some where that the above tyre size is not common and I should be able to go to a 225 width as these are cheaper and have a better choice. Is this true? can I go to the next width?

I've seen threads about changing 215/50 17 to 225/45 17 but can't recall any on 16s. However, a quick check on http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html reveals that going to 225/50 16 results in a -1.87% difference in diameter. Having said that, not too sure that 225/50 16 is a common size either.

Go to http://www.valuetyres.co.uk and slap in 215/55/16 tyre size, they have hundreds of tyres for this fitting from budgets at £32 a corner, my favourites Continental Premium Contact at only £87 a corner!!

www.mytyres.co.uk are also a good place for cheap tyres, plus the price includes p&p.

Thx Neil, I just ran them through, I been fitting Nexen budgets which ar ok until it rains at £55 a corner, as a discounted price, just found I can have an Avon for £2 more, knows where my next boots are coming from.

Had that tyre size on my last vectra 2.2 Dti. had no problems getting that size and went for the Goodyear NCT's as I got 36k miles from the first set. They were €108 each about £72stg each fitted and balanced
