    Default Fdx9750

Been following this rather unusual flight from Shuangliu to Edinburgh
The FedEx B777 flew over Stavanger at about 11:00
Looks like it will land at Edinburgh at about 13:00

    Rather strange
The aircraft flew just to the south of Peterhead at 40K feet then started to lose height
It took a change of heading at Aberdeen, straight over Perth, then a complete circuit to the south of Edinburgh and back out over the Forth

Does a B777 have to take an unusually long approach?
Why not just follow the coast and land directly?

I am amazed this is allowed!
I find it very useful when sitting watching the sky and wondering with a clear sky where all the high altitude jets are going
Virtually no B747 any more, almost all are B777 or A340
Also, the ratio of passenger to cargo

If it was just stooging around, chances are it had a huge tail wind which brought it close to its destination a lot earlier than expected, and is now just burning off fuel so it can land.

Commercial aircraft of this size have to be below a certain weight of fuel to land for safety reasons.

You should see it on a Monday morning between 07:00 and 10:00
In and around Heathrow can look very complicated
Having been in London and looked up to see over 50 fifty planes above, fully understand that

Back in Scotland, interesting to watch the northbound domestic flights as they cross the border, to then look up and see it

For transatlantic flights, Sunday morning (westbound) and evening (eastbound) are very good
Eventually you realise how well timed these are to arrive at their relevant destination

I used to drive down the M4 towards london quite regular in the evenings, and its unreal to see the lights from the approaching aircraft coming into land. On a clear evening you can see 12+ aircraft all lined up coming into land.

You quickly realize when you see the online trackers why Air Traffic Controllers only work a short amount of time before changing over... The responsibility they have is enormous!!

On a different note. I was on the afternoon shift, and just outside our works, which is under a flight path to Birmingham (un- International) airport. There was on heck of a roaring noise I looked up to see an emirates plane landing. I thought "oh" dear (swear filter would work now) that plane is too low. Then suddenly there was an almighty roar. Four great plumes of exhaust smoke and the plane pulled up steeply to a higher level. He must have got something wrong as Yes he was too low. Must have frightened the passengers a bit.

Site's brilliant!! I've just watched a Ryan Air 737-800 fly overhead on it's way to Italy!
