excellium fuel is it worth it

As above does anyone use this fuel from total garages. I use this garage as I live about 50yards from one. I'm getting pretty poo mpg at the min ( I know I know everyone moans about this one) I've put it down to it only doing short journeys mostly in rush hour as my mrs is using it at the min. Someone advise me to fill it with excellium and give it a good run but I don't know if there's any truth in this. Would like to know what everyone's thoughts are on using the more expensive fuel anyway, is it worth it, ta all. Rob

well differant people will tell you differant things. i personally use shell v-power (99RON) i believe excellium is 98? if im being honest it makes little or no differance to performance power wise, i did notice after a few weeks the car being more responsive. i also noticed economy did increase slightly too but most importantly due to having 2 friends work for motorsport teams i learnt that its what better quality fuel does to your car. they contain cleaning elements so you havnt got to keep dumping nasty redex in your tank. so it will certainly run more smoothly keep everything more clean and efficient as poss and improve the life of your engine so to me the extra 6-7p is worth it but others argue, thats just me though....

It's obvious a long run will return a higher MPG, as the average speed is higher and very few gear changes
Save your money and buy standard fuel instead

Find out where the fuel comes from
For example here in Scotland the majority comes from Grangemouth, so the core fuel is BP

i only put 99ron in my mapped astra vxr, it helps to reduce knock once running high boost. In a normal car i doubt i would spend the extra. If you going to tune though, you might as well get the most out of the car.

Personally, I've not found any difference when comparing BP Diesel against BP Ultimate Diesel (as was challenged by our BP rep)
It takes at least three full tanks to see any difference, but cost against benefit is negligible
I received vouchers so that I could try BP Ulitmate for "free" (basically the difference) and after five tanks saw a change from 32mpg to 34mpg, afterwards it returned to 32mpg

Personally use super unleaded all the time. My Vec has only been run on 99 since I bought it 2 years ago. Not too fussed about the performance side of it, more the cleaning abilities of the fuel. My oil is changed every 6000 miles and it is always golden coloured. I could be wrong but cleaner oil means a cleaner engine; less carbon deposits etc. Just my view.

Oh yeah I agree obviously doing a long run returns higher mpg but to be honest even when we went on a motorway run last week it didn't seem to give us decent mpg not like it used too. It is due it's service mid Jan bu it's only an interim and I did an oil and filter change a few months back ( as others do vx service it every 12 month and I do an oil and filter change every 6) but I don't think it's down to this. I'm wondering whether vx replaced the fuel filter on it's last service as I know this can cause poor mpg. Silly me I never asked them as I just assumed they would being it's first major service
