    Default Misfire/hesitation - an update.

Reagarding the misfire I was getting at partial throttle openings, I noticed that it was really bad when lifting off the pedal to change gear. It sounded like a "steam train whoosh". Then a mate of mine came across VX field remedy 1831:

Complaint:Kind of steam train noise from the engine compartment at around 2500 rpm, especially noticeable at vehicles equipped with automatic transmission.
    Cause:Oscilltion of the EGR actuator.
Production:New software was introduced with the following VIN Rüsselsheim plant W0L0ZCF3551058394

The solution seems to be updated software but as an interim, I decided to reduce the EGR gasket to 2 x 8mm holes.

Result - no more misfire, hesitation or jerkiness. So everything, in my case at least, would point towards the EGR itself and the signals it's receiving.

Will have to see what VX say on Monday when it goes on Tech-2 but at least I might be heading in the right direction. Hopefully it's not turbo, fuel pump or injector related.

How about a sticky with the symptoms, troubleshooting and resolution if any?
Would make an excellent knowledge base.

Yea, sorry, missed my own thread .

Gave the dealer a list of what I thought it could be, including rememdy 1831.

Yes, things have improved, I'd say about 75% better as it still has it's misfire. Their technician wrote that "misfire gone, no smoke". Well, right and wrong Mr Techy. I noticed this morning that it still chucked out clouds of smoke on light throttle when cold but got better when fully warmed up with no smoke that I could see (day time).

Now to the misfire - as I said, much better but not the 100% result I was expecting. So tomorrow, the blanking plate with 2 x 8mm holes is going back in and together with the software update, I should (?) have the perfect engine .

Will update in the next few days as Friday night is the next time it goes on a longish run (50 miles) of rural and motorway.

    HTH.

Edit - these are the threads that got me onto the drilled blanking idea http://vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52983 & http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...=51953&page=16. I then started another thread asking if people were still running drilled blanks but no views or replies, so I guess many who tried it have moved on.

Software update + drilled blanking plate = happy Signum driver, for now anyway .

Will have to see how the drilled plate affects things like the EGR itself and MAP sensor (maifold pressure thingy, not the MAF) .
