    Default Cat been ran over

at dinner today my cat ran accross the road and was hit by a speeding council van driver, the ******** slowed after hitting her then drove of. weve been searching all day for her and at 11pm she turned up, but in lots of discomfort. We have took her to the out of hours vets and had to leave her there till tomorrow, hopefully she will be okay as my kids will be devastated.

My question is would the council be liable?

No they won't be liable one of the risks of having a cat I'm afraid.

As above, they won't be liable. The animal owner is always at fault for not having their pet under control - no matter what it is I'm afraid.

If it was a dog. I belive they should report it. But a cat No. It is a horrible thing to happen to a "pet" of yours though.

If you hit a dog you are supposed to report it,

I'm afraid with cats there'll be nothing you can do to the driver regarding responsibilty

My 6 month old ginger kitten got killed. Was absolutely gutted. Missus was so upset she had to meet me at work. Went to the vet as the lady who found him worked there. Was hard to see. I know people say there only cats but you do get attached.

it was my understanding that you only reported hitting a dog because years ago they were licensed, now they are not so i was under the impression they have the same non rights as a cat,

sorry to hear about yer cat mucker
