Insurance goups changed recently from 1-50 so there is a good chance that her Corsa is now group 7, the polo could now be group 10+.
The insurer can't change groups, only the company that rates car safety can do this, but groups can change the ratings based on new safety kit added or removed.
Saw this happen when I was in car sales, a 1.2 SXi prefacelift 01-04 was group 4, facelifts were group 3.

There are other factors you havent taken in to account. How long had she had the Polo? There is always a "new car" cost involved. If she had owned the car for more then a year it would have been cheaper to insure. Also is the corsa not worth more? How many 1.2 corsa's get written off compared to diesel polos, and how do the insurance companies statistics show most people drive the corsas compared to the polos? The insurance group is a very small factor that in my experience has little bearing on the overal cost of insurance.

As said above chances are the group 3 rating was from the old system not the new

The polo is now group 13+

And the corsa may well be group 7

Sorry if Ive missed understood your post, but my point was that the fact she had owned the polo 2 years will have given her a greater discount. Tell her to ask the insurance company if they will put in the system that she has owned the new car for 2 years. Its should be quite a bit cheaper. Also as I said you dont know the statistics for the polo vs the corsa? How long does she have left on her current insurance? Insurance quotes change quite alot at the moment on a weekly basis.

Whats the difference in the value of both cars? To be honest im surprised she got anything back. Whats her admin fee? Some companies charge 45 + quid for a change. So that would mean she actually got £65 back. Also what does she pay a year? If she pays £200 the a 10% reduction isnt bad. If she pays £2000 then 2% reduction isnt so good

Just done a quick quote on confused.com and the Polo comes in at £40 more a year for me, but thats with me not owning either car yet and values being teh same for both cars. As a comparison both are only slightly less than a Pay for my 2.8 Vec insured up to 300bhp and all mods declaired.
