Default Has health and safety gone ott ?

I decided today as i was off work to visit my local breakers yard has i wanted a couple of items for my vectra a rear ashtray and battery cover, now i must admit i havent been to a breakers yard for a couple of years prefering to buy my bits of ebay,Anyway i strolled in to the the yard when this chap shouted at me "what you looking for" ? explained to him what i was after he said to me that he would go and have a look and let me know if they had the parts. When i asked him if i could have a look round he told me no due to health and safety he wasnt allowed to let members of the public wander around and i would have to be escorted and wear a hi viz jacket, now when i was younger part of the fun of visiting a breakers yard was to have a nose around the wrecks and pick up some bargains it just seems that health and safety these days have gone way over the top ?

Ditto here! I just climb up the cars and in, the guys that work there find it hilarious that i could be 3 or 4 cars up with asking for assistance, and come with pockets bulging of the bits i want haha

Haven't been to one here, but in NZ the rules were hi viz and closed top shoes, and you brought your own tools to remove the parts, as well as $1 to get in and wander.

The last breakers yard I went to made me wait in their office while some 14 year old boy removed the wrong wing mirror... twice.

I did think it would have been easier to do it myself.

Yea U Pull It at Inverkeithing are the same. You need to sign in and wear high viz at all times too. Mind you its all pretty safe these days, all thier cars on on the flat, none of this climbing 3 cars up any more.

Half the time when people hide behind "health and safety rules" it's actually because they don't have adequate public liability insurance and so they don't want to end up paying your injury claim out of their own pockets. The other half of the time it's just because they don't actually know anything about what the health and safety rules are, so they just make it up. The other half of the time it's because they're jobsworths and stopping anyone from doing anything gives them a feeling of power. I know that adds up to one-and-a-half, but I couldn't find my calculator.
