    Default Perfect Shifting/Acceleration calculator

Just came across this calculator the other day. Dunno if anyone found it before? Seems a pretty nifty tool if you have the right info and torque graph to hand. Worked pretty accurately for me compared to my santapod slip once i messed around with the frontal end (no idea of the correct value but i made sure everything else like gearing etc was correct, cant remember the value i ended up using).

Ye, i know a few modern cars have beepers etc, and mine being an auto i dont really have to worry lol (manual mode too laggy to use to full potential too). Just thought i'd post it mainly for acceleration calculator for people who have tuned up a bit etc, see what difference to a ton etc it's made and what to roughly expect!

The dash icons are surely more for economy than the 'perfect' gear change point?

In essence, the optimum point is where the torque out of the gearbox in the next gear exceeds the torque out of the gearbox in the current gear (at the relative engine speeds). I can't see how final drive ratio, wheel size, frontal area, Cd etc come into it, as they will be constant - so can be removed from the calculation. Any vehicle speed related factors can be ignored because they are a feature of the car in whatever gear it is in.

All you actually need to work it out is the gear ratios, the torque curve from the engine, and the gearbox efficiency across the speeds and gears (if you want to be pedantic)
