Default 3.0 V6 cdti timing belt costs

just after a bit of advice and wondered if anybody had a rough idea how much dealers would charge for the timing belt replacement, and as it's getting near the 100k I guess it needs the valve shims done, so what do ya reckon this might be around?

I'm sitting down as I reckon the price will be scary, given the belt kit is £250 notes on its own!

Will probably end up doing the work myself but can't bare the thought of doing the shims, so many bits of the engine in the way!! :P

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

    Default

Timing belt an tremsioners take about an hour and half to change on this engine.

Really easy. An kit can be bought from auto Vaux for £162

As for checking valve clearance I'd say it's about 2-3 hour job as there is a lot to move out of the way. And then slightly longer if any shims need changing

Crank to fuel pump (inc water pump) are driven by internal gears

But cams are driven from belt an fuel pump.

Ex an inlet cams are timed to each other by helical gears on cam shafts

Phone at least three dealerships and ask for quotes
You are quite right about the valve clearances, this appears on the Service schedule for completion at end of cambelt
Mine was completed under warranty at 90K miles, but was advised the cost (in 2009) would have been about £400
The labour time was 6 hours but they managed it in just over 4

cheers for the advice guys, I think I'll do the belt myself and then flick a coin over the valve clearances! To be honest it's just the thought of checking, adjusting, checking, adjusting, checking, adjusting, checking adjusting.... maybe it wont be too bad stripping all the gubbins on top of the engine.
