Default Spanner light any one with a fault code reader near Swadlincot/Burton-on-trent/Derby EAST MIDS AREA

Brought a 1.9 150cdti auto yesterday on way home spanner light came on for a few mins car drove fine as normal then went off. Came out to car this morning and had a flat battery so jumped it and spanner light was on when engine started so reved it up a bit and spanner light went out and hasnt been on all day, i've had my battery and alternator checked by two garages and both said they are fine so i'm really confussed, just got rid of a bag of **** 1.9 with the dmf gone hope i've not got another bad one, would of been cheaper to keep my VXR with all the repair bills im faced with and to top it off i was made redundant last wednesday so things are quite crap at the min, any help really appreciated also can anyone do me a cambelt change car has done 97500 miles and really really needs one asap before she goes. cheers Lee

It's the water pump that causes the problem. It siezes and grabs the belt causing damage.

I think people recommend to do it (belt and pump) every 40k.
There's a how to on the forum showing how to !!

Just done my lads. The belt was fine but the pump felt notchy once removed. Got a Gates cam belt kit and new water pump - gives peace of mind. Also did aux drive belt whilst at it.
