    Default Rear upper control arms

My vectra is banging at the rear when over uneven surfaces. It also has a "shopping trolley" effect where it feels unstable. I have been advised it may be the upper control arms. There is also a metallic rattle coming from the rear o/s. When I apply the brakes this stops so I am assuming it is a brake component??

The dealer wants £290 to change the UCArms, can anyone tell me exactly what parts I need so I can buy them myself & give this a go. i.e are there any bushes that will need changing at the same time?

The brake rattle sounds like a pad sliding about, I had the same problem and sourted it out by using bits of copper on either side so it couldn't move.(maybe somebody a little more technically minded can explain this better for you)

As for the upper control arms there is a how to on the forum but I found a nightmare of a job to do, however it was well worth it .

I did mine at the weekend! easy job really, just need the right length extension and E18 socket. And i still had my springs etc in place :P

I was surprised tho, it's made a MASSIVE difference to the handling, and it wasn't even knocking, just a bit of wobbly side to side movement before on uneven surfaces, which is now completely gone, and the back feels amazingly tight lol

Well I managed to source the control arms for £55 (Vauxhall wanted £170!!! ) They are new however I think one of them may be used.

Here are pics of them both to compare. It's the one on the left that I dont think is up to scratch.

I changed mine about 3 weeks ago, pretty simple job to do, just fiddley if your rolling round on the floor, I took the rear springs off to aid access but it's upto you which way you want to do it, I paid £26+ VAT for mine and there FAI ones you should be able to do them in a couple of hours
