Default Sounds like metal-to-metal from the rear.

When im braking, my rear has started to sound like its metal-to-metal. I have checked the pads and there is loads on it, ive also checked the discs, seem good.

Are there brake shoes inside the discs? Do they operate under the normal foot brake?? Is that what the grinding sound is??

Help please, before I strip it all down for a pee in the wind.

    Car is a 2004 Signum 2.2 DTi.

Are you sure it's the back? It's more likely to be the little dust shields behind the front discs. Very common indeed, they're a pain in the neck, only an inch or so square hanging on a little arm behind the bottom of the front discs, check them, bend them out a couple of mm and see if the sound goes away. Last time mine did it, it sounded like the whole axle was going to fall off any minute, turned out to be a speck of gravel so small I could barely see it trapped in between the disc and the little shield.

There's no shoes inside the disk, the handbrake works on the standard pads. The inside pads wear much more than the outside ones tho, so when you had a look was it just at the outside pad?

    As above.

My rear pad I could see through the wheel looked ok but the inner had about 3mm left on it.

I will check the inner pad tomorrow. I checked the outer through the wheel.

Thanks for the comments guys. It doesnt sound like a stone stuck, its proper metal sounding.

Right, the noise is deffo from the drivers side rear.

I took the back wheel off today, seems to plenty of pad on inners and outers.

The only thing I noticed was that the disc protector was incredibly close to the disc so I bent it back so its no where near. Anyway, PROBLEM STILL THERE.

A bit more of a description, happens under heavy'ish breaking and sometimes normal. Also, when I slow right down and then just roll away, I can still hear the metal sound (almost like a chaffing against metal) until I speed up.

Its deffo braking related but I cannot pinpoint it!!

    !
