DPF advice

Hi guys, just got a 2006 vectra cdti 150 auto and i keep getting a car with spanner symbol coming up, when it does theres a smell of burning and the consumption drops rapidly so i assume this is the dpf attemting to do a regen, am i right?

i have done diagnostics using opcom and no fault codes show up, so not 100%

Yes that is what is happening. IF the ecu had been updated the light would not come on. If you drive the car normaly I would be intrested in how offten this happens as you have the light still working. I have 2 V6 sri's one auto and one manual . the auto does it every 300mls but the manual does no do ti at all if driven hard about once a week.

The car and spanner light is not an indication of a regen, regardless of ECU updates, and a manual vectra won't do it at all as it ain't even got a DPF!!

If you have a look through your software, there is a section on how saturated your DPF is.

The car and spanner light is not an indication of a regen, regardless of ECU updates, and a manual vectra won't do it at all as it ain't even got a DPF!!

Manual estates have DPF's and I think the odd saloon and hatchback.

I beg to differ my V6cdti sri 56 plate manual hatchback has dpf. it is listed for my reg in the VX epc at the steelers. I the handbook for the facelift it tells you in black and white the the light comes on when it regens.

I have just checked my cousins 1.9 CDTI 150 56 plate and that does not have DPF filter.

I stand corrected if your manual hatch has a DPF, but I'm still not convinced that the car and spanner light indicates a regen is taking place.

I checked mine a few weeks ago, using the same equipment that we can't mention, and it showed 112% saturation - On the next long journey I ran it at 60 -70 mph using lower gears than normal to keep the revs up, and the next time I ran a check it was only reading 12% so I assume it had carried out a purge. No smells, change in performance or lights on the dash!

Tools:

Mask
Long steel tube
5lb club hammer

Take the dpf off knock through the innards (honeycomb crap) 30 mins approx
Refit dpf

Get ECU remap (dpf off) done £150.00 approx.

No more problems been to Spain and back couple of times and passes MOT perfectly well, not to mention 60+ mpg on the Spain run.
