    Default Power Steering Failure

My Dad's power steering failed yesterday morning on his 06 CDTi 150, thankfully while on the drive.

AA called out, and diagnosed the "Motor" had failed and the AA guy had heard about tapping the power steering "Motor" with a hammer to fire it back to life, and sure enough it did the trick.....enabling my Dad to get it down to the garage, who agreed to look at it on Monday for him.

Is there such a thing a power steering 'Motor' on the 1.9 CDTi 150, or does he mean the pump?, just that i looked for replacement motors and nothing comes up, but searching on here it seems the pump failure is common

I was going to look at sourcing a second hand pump but that could be false economy.

We'll see what garage says tomorrow anyway....

Yeah it will be the same thing, There is a motor in the pump (enabling it to pump the fluid). I think theyre electric on that model

Ahh right cheers for that Steve, makes sense abit now

I'm just not sure about the 2nd hand route with something like this.....dont get me wrong ive bought 2nd hand parts in the past and had no trouble at all with them, but would hate to get a 2nd hand part and have it fitted and it go again, this time possibly somewhere not as convenient/safe as the drive at home

I can get a new one exchange from ECP for £521, with £234 back for the exchange, which isnt bad i dont think.....I wonder how much they are Tradeclub from stealers?

    UPDATE:

Got car back today, garage been looking over it and road testing etc and the steering packed up while on one of the test drives....they re-set something or other, re-calibrated steering angle sensors (I Think?)...but they say it's looking more than likely it's going to be the actual steering column with the ECU/EHPS Module thats at fault rather than the pump.

Is this a common problem on the Vectra's?, because most issues ive seen have just been the pump.

and also i think i'm right in this, but i'm sure they said it could possibly need a new pump with the column....i could be wrong....but is that something to do with a coding or matching of the pump and steering ECU?

any help and advice greatfully received

    Ta

    Default Steering column Failure?

    Reference to this thread:

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151068

Can anyone help any further please.

I have never heard of the steering column being an issue....if anyone can shed more light on this i'd be very grateful.

*and please do not move this into the Troubleshooting section, as i have put this thread in here due to it hardly getting looked at in the Troubleshooting section....I appreciate what people have advised already, but it's escalated from that issue....and i'm in the dark abit, and this section gets for more people in.

    Thankyou.
