Default No compression in cylinder no.1

hi, wanting some advice, went out yesterday, drove about 3 miles when car just cut out on me as i slowed down as i went off a slip road, spanner light was on, got it started again drove about 100 yards and it cut out again, managed to park it up somewhere safe but couldnt get it started again. called the AA out who hooked it up to a fault code reader but none were recorded so he took the plugs out ( o i have a facelift 2.2 direct auto) and did a compression test where he found no compression at all in cylinder n0.1 but 2,3,4 were all fine but car wont start at all. does anyone know what could be causing this and a ruff idea of the likely cost to get it fixes.

    thanks

    nick

Did he put a drop of oil in to see if gained compression?

If you get some with the oil in then it's piston rings.

But to have zero compression is very weird.
Could be burn out valves. Damaged head/ block etc.

You could get a garage to do a leak down test to see if they can find where its leaking

no he never put any oil into it, im stuck really till i can get some cash together cuz the AA guy rekons a garage will have to strip it down which is gona cost me even if i cant afford the fix. pants as xmas is coming up n im getting married next year so finances very very tight.

could it be the timing chain as i did mention to the mrs that i thought i could hear a rattle which wasnt normally there and rekoned to her that i may need to get the timing chain done.

i would say that your cam chain slipped a tooth which stopped the car originally then when you started the car again, the timing was out which has resulted you in bending a valve. if this is the case i would guestimate from a garage £800 ish if mildly mechanically minded £300ish, another option like i say if the above has happend, give benny a shout he isn't far from you and he will do the cam chain for you at a good price, then get the head looked at by a head specialist.

sorry for being a dumb ass just realised you in Derby not Dudley(too bloomin' early for me).

i doubt that the head is cracked m8,i would still be going with my other reply about a bent valve being the cause of no compression, and your cam chain slipping as the cause of the bent valve.
