Default Vectra 2.2 dti (2003) alternator

    Hi all,

My alternator has packed in on my 2003 vectra 2.2dti,

Does anybody know of the cheapest place to get one from? New or recon.
Preferably somewhere in the north west.

I'm thinking of fitting this myself with some help from a friend, is it a pain to do?
    Any tips, ha ha

    Thanks

Well I'm not 100% on that but from all the warning lights that lit up on the dashboard, and a bit of research on the net, it seems to point to the alternator ready for packing in?
The lights that came on are a steering wheel with an exclamation mark, traction control light stays on, battery light came on for a while, abs light came on for a while aswell, and the car felt bad to drive.
Also I've noticed that on starting the car in the morning the headlights flicker, and don't look as bright as they should. I've just replaced the bulbs aswell.

Does this sound like a faulty alternator?

    Thanks

do as benny says could be just your belt and tensioner that has given up the chase and needs replacing.

Will it be obvious if the belt and tensioner are knackered?

    What should I look for?

take the o/s front road wheel off and then remove the wheel arch lining and the tensioner is sat behind that at the bottom.

if its past it it will be lose and should have some free play if you move it by hand. check the belt for cracks, splits and tears if this is the case it will need replacing in all should cost you around £40 from the dealers for the parts and its easy enough to change them over your self. hope this helps
