    Default Code reader software

Hi all, have done some searching regarding this topic and have done some "googling" but cant really find anything that helpful.

I have recently purchased an ELM 327 usb reader (also does live data) I have used Scantool.net which came with it (guessing its not a full programme as some aspects of it arn't available) It is telling me that their are no codes to read, covering previous/pending/current etc? can this happen or could it be non compatible software? I was under the impression that codes were stored in the cars ECU?

Also can anyone recommend any software that I can use with this ELM 327 device? and is there anyway I can turn the "CHECK BULB LIGHT" off? all my bulbs are working but I have recently changed the brake lights as both rears wern't working... Thankyou

USB one unfortunately, my own fault as was one of them "quick buy" situations... had i done a little more research I would have got the bluetooth one as I'm on a Android HTC lol!

Main thing I need to find out is "have I got no codes, or is the software not picking it up"

Forgot to mention, Car is a Vectra C 02 plate 2.2 petrol

In general, most ELM327 based readers can only read and interact with the engine ECU (P-codes).

On the Vectra there are several ECUs, which control and store codes for different systems (eg body control, ABS, security etc), but you will require a code reader that knows how to talk to these Vauxhall specific ECUs - for example Tech2 or OPCOM.

Obviously the bulb warnings are nothing to do with the engine, so Scantool etc won't be able to read that.

as your running a htc go for one of these it will work with your phone and also your laptop if its bluetooth enabled and comes with some software for the laptop.

I know a few people who have one and i`ve seen it working first hand it will check fault codes and allow you to clear them all you need to do is download that app i mentioned earlier called torque

    Well spotted thanks mate!

As for the bulb, My brake light bulb had gone, so changed it, but the bulb warning light on the dash hasn't gone out. Every bulb round the car, inside and out is in working order hence me after getting the warning light turned off? or should it turn off once new bulb is fitted?

odds on another bulb has a fault might be still working but it will have the fault
mine was the rear left brake light bulb changed it still had bulb warning light and it kept on popping up on the screen left brake light in the end i changed all 4 back brake light bulbs at the same time (2 in each side)
as someone on here told me one of the bulbs might appear to be working but somewhere their will be a little fault on one of the bulbs once i did that it went off i dont think i needed my fault code reader to turn it off im sure it did it on its own
