Question Strange sound when turning wheel from centre??

    Hi boys and girls

Have only just got my car and it has a very strange noise coming from under the bonnet.

It only seems to happen when the wheels are straight and when I turn the wheel off centre. The noise is like a spring sound?

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    Pacey

    Possibly a broken spring?

Where did you get it from?
As above, if you are turning the steering wheel and hear a noise from one side only, likely to be a broken spring
Check the top of the valence cup for the broken remaining part
Be careful as the remaining spring can be sharp

Could be small pieces of grit between the spring and bottom retaining cup. Happened to mine when I had a similar noise. Garage jacked it up, lifted the spring up and blew all the stones and grit out the cup with an air line so the spring could sit back in the cup properly. Not heard any noise since.

It might be worthwhile checking your steering knuckle intermediate shaft, A notoriously weak part on most vauxhalls, if you pop the bonnet and look at the shaft where it goes in to the top of the rack, there will be bolts (can't remember if its one or 2) give them a little tweak, I had to give mine a half turn to tighten properly, that gave a spring sound and you could feel a pop through the wheel
